Upset with a wide ranging education measure which they believes punishes them for striking last year, the unions representing West Virginia teachers called for a job action beginning Tuesday.
Mineral County Schools announced they would be closed on Tuesday at 7:22 PM Monday night.
Also in our region, Jefferson County schools in the eastern panhandle announced it would be closed just moments after that, with Hardy County posting its closure at 7:55 PM.
Hampshire and Grant Counties joined the list during the 8:00 PM hour.
54 out of 55 West Virginia counties have canceled school for Tuesday with the only hold out being Putnam county. Putnam Counties Superintedent of Schools, John Hudson, sent out a recorded message Monday evening saying that he expected employees to show up for work. However, reportedly many buses are not moving in the county as many employees have not shown up for work or started the buses.
