The West Virginia Republican State Executive Committee re-elected Melody Potter as its Chairwoman at the organization's summer meeting in Wheeling, West Virginia, today according to a press release from the West Virginia Republican Party (WVGOP).
Republican elected officials, Republican Party leaders, and grassroots activists gathered in Wheeling to elect a chairperson, new party leadership, and to discuss the Republican Party's plan for the General Election. The 125 voting members of the Republican State Executive Committee unanimously voted to re-elect Melody Potter, who has been serving as Chairwoman since January, to a full four-year term as Chairwoman of the WVGOP.
"It's an honor to be re-elected Chairwoman of the West Virginia Republican Party. I'm thankful for the members of the Republican State Executive Committee and their confidence in my leadership. My focus continues to be the election of Republicans to public office across the state of West Virginia. Our party is a big team with lots of hard workers, and I'm honored to be selected to lead the Republican team," said Melody Potter, Chairwoman of the WVGOP.
For nearly 15 years, Potter has been involved in Republican politics and conservative political organizations in West Virginia. She began her service to the Republican Party as a volunteer coordinator for former President George W. Bush in Kanawha County. Over many years, she worked her way up from volunteer coordinator to Kanawha County Republican Party Chairwoman to WVGOP National Committeewoman to being elected the first Chairwoman of the West Virginia Republican Party this year.
Potter and her husband, Rob, are small business owners in Charleston, West Virginia. They are active in their church and community. They have one son and two grandsons.
In addition to the election of Potter, Republican officials received an update from the Republican National Committee on their efforts in West Virginia, an update from West Virginia Republican National Committeewoman Kayla Kessinger and Committeeman Larry Pack, and unanimously passed a resolution supporting Amendment 1, which will appear before West Virginia voters on the November ballot.
"I love being involved in Republican politics. I have made so many cherished friends as we've worked alongside each other for Republican candidates all across our state. The work never stops, but I enjoy it. I'm leaving on Monday for the Republican National Committee meeting in Austin, Texas, to represent West Virginia at the national meeting," concluded Potter.
