The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad’s work on restoration of the Baldwin Locomotive Works Number 1309 continues to progress, and is featured in the October 2015 issue of Trains Magazine. The restoration of the engine is a necessity, as the current steam engine, Number 734, is scheduled for a mandatory several year inspection at the end of the current year. 1309 is expected to bring additional attention to the local railroad, and will be able to pull more cars without needing diesel help. It was officially retired in 1956 and, until last year, had been stored at the B & O Museum since 1977.
