A housing tier at the Western Correctional Institution has been placed on lockdown after an inmate was stabbed Friday — the second such incident at the facility in three days.
Gerard Shields, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, said a 23-year-old inmate suffered non-life-threatening puncture wounds to his head and torso when he was attacked Friday about 1 p.m. The Cumberland Times News reports two suspects have been identified in the ongoing investigation and a homemade weapon was recovered, Shields said.
The victim, who is serving a life sentence for murder, was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The incident happened on the same housing tier of the maximum-security prison where an inmate was stabbed six times Wednesday night. That victim is serving a 60-year sentence for kidnapping.
