The Cumberland Times News reports that city officials say the resurfacing of historic Washington Street should be completed by the middle of next week. In addition, officials are expecting to open one lane of the Washington Street bridge to vehicular traffic next week as well. John DiFonzo, city engineer, said he expects it will be 4-ton limit, one lane, when the city finally gets official word next week. Many residents have put up with a "rough" ride in the section of Washington Street above Allegany Street since the milling and paving project began Oct. 3. The Washington Street bridge was closed in April due to deterioration discovered during an inspection. The bridge is owned by CSX Transportation.
