The Washington Street bridge was closed indefinitely Tuesday, just three days after the span was struck by a railcar of a CSX freight train. City engineer John Difonzo told WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” Tuesday that the action was taken as a result of the most recent Allegany County bridge inspection. The deteriorating bridge has been subject of debate for several years now as city officials and representatives from CSX each have questions as to who is responsible for the bridge.
