The Washington Street bridge has been closed once again due to safety concerns. Over the weekend, a CSX Train hit the bridge, and combining that incident with the most recent Allegany County Bridge inspection, Cumberland’s Engineering Department opted for a shut down.
Mayor Brian Grim put the blame for the condition of the bridge on CSX, and recommended that residents call the railroad at 1-877-TELL CSX. Commission President Jake Shade concurred with the necessity of shutting down the bridge.
