Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged Brian Christian Weigand (41) with multiple arson related charges after determining he was responsible for setting personal belongings on fire after he placed them next to a construction trailer converted into an occupied dwelling located at 9212 Stottlemyer Road in Boonsboro.
The one alarm fire occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. after a domestic situation resulted in Weigand taking personal belongings of Tiffany Swope (28) from his home and placed the items next to the camper trailer of Shawn Wolfe (25). Weigand then proceeded to ignite the items that caused scorching to the camper before neighbor extinguished the small blaze. Four firefighters responded from the Mt. Aetna Volunteer Fire Department to search for remaining hotspots. The fire caused an estimated $2,000 in damage to the structure and personal effects.
During the incident, Weigand was struck in the head by an unknown person with a portable fire extinguisher used at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center where he was treated and released to the custody of waiting deputies.
Weigand was questioned and proceeded to explain the details of the incident and confessed that he set the fire. He was transported to the Washington County Detention Center on charges of: Arson 1st Degree, Malicious Burning 1st Degree, Malicious Destruction of Property and (2) counts of Reckless Endangerment. Weigand remains in the detention center on $150,000 bond.
