Uses for Former Allegany Being Considered

After serving the community for more than 90 years- Allegany High School on Sedgwick Street in Cumberland now sits vacant for the most part- with the building ultimately expected to be turned over to the county. While no decisions have been made as to what to do with the building- everything from demolition to converting it into a housing complex have been among the rumors.  Vince Montana, facilities director for the Allegany County Board of Education, said that at this point the building is still being emptied by maintenance staff and sometime soon the building will be used for training operations for local law enforcement…

    What about the gymnasium? Do they have plans for games to be played there, such as church leagues, etc. It is such a waste to not utilize the gym and this facility.
