A pedestrian struck by a vehicle on National Highway before dawn Wednesday was wearing dark clothing and walking in a coned-off construction zone at the time of the accident, according to Maryland State Police. Police said the 28-year-old female victim was injured and unconscious at the scene before she was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment following the 6:18 a.m. accident. Police said the victim had just exited a business when she was struck by the construction vehicle of the Belt Paving company operated by a 56-year-old employee. She was assisted by LaVale fire and rescue volunteers who took her to the hospital. No information was available Friday concerning her condition. The accident remains under investigation.
