Update On Footer Dye Works Project

Having announced two potential pubs targeted to locate on the first floor of the Footer Dye Works building last year only to see them both fall through- project developer Michael Joy is taking a far more cautious tone these days. Officials close to the $9 million Footer's Dye Works Building renovation say interest has increased in the project with four new inquiries received regarding the first floor restaurant space- however when asked by WCBC News during Tuesday’s regular meeting of  the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority,  Joy said he could not  comment due to confidentiality agreements.  Joy hopes to install a restaurant and brewery on the first floor, offices on the second floor and 16 loft apartments on the third and fourth floors. Meanwhile Doug Reed of the Maryland Historical Trust, a member of  the Canal Place board provided a general update on the renovation of the building itself.  He said things are going smoothly- and that most importantly all of the safety concerns have been addressed….

Despite some setbacks during the early part of the year, Footer Dye Works developer Michael Joy reports that talks are ongoing with a number of potential restaurant/micro brewery prospects to serve as an anchor for the project. In addition he says there is very strong interest in the residential loft apartments that will occupy the upper floors of the historic building. Renovations have been underway all year, including restoring the windows, repairing the roof and re-construction the adjacent saw tooth structure. Two potential restaurant/brewery operations had initially agreed to locate on the first floor of the Footer building, but both fell through.  Joy provided a project update during Tuesday’s meeting of the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority and was asked for a status report on any commercial possibilities…
