On Wednesday, 01/27/2016, at 6:18 PM, the Allegany County Dispatch Center received a hang up telephone call. A call back to the number that the hang up call was received from was answered by a male subject who stated that he was in the vicinity of the Dairy Queen on Industrial Boulevard, that he had been stabbed, and that he was bleeding. Officers from the Cumberland Police and Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area to attempt to locate the victim. The responding Officers did not locate anyone in that area, but continued on east on Industrial Boulevard onto Route 51.
At the same time two passing motorists observed the victim along the roadway, just outside of the city limits, near the intersection of Route 51 and Uhl Highway, and stopped to lend assistance. As they were calling 911, Officers and Deputies who had been searching for the victim arrived on the scene.
The victim was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by ambulance. Emergency room personnel continued treating the victim, who never regained consciousness, and who was eventually pronounced dead.
Initial examination of the victim’s body revealed that the victim had been stabbed in the chest.
The victim’s body is being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
In addition to the Cumberland Police and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
