The Cumberland Times News reports that Cumberland Police confirmed Friday that a widely circulated Facebook video of Bernice Amber Crawford and Phillip Richard Shipley involved in an altercation a short time before Crawford's fatal shooting in nearby Mineral County has been entered as evidence in an ongoing investigation.
Cumberland Police Capt. Greg Leake said Friday the video was received from a witness to the incident that occurred at about 12:20 Wednesday afternoon in an area off High Bedford Street where Crawford resided.
“We have entered the video recording as evidence in our investigation. We anticipate criminal charges will be filed against Phillip Shipley and another person shown in the video identified as Demond Scott,” said Leake.
The investigation reportedly included a statement taken from Crawford. Shipley was not present when police investigated at the scene.
The several-minute video recording shows Crawford and Shipley involved in an altercation as well as footage of Demond Scott arriving at the location and then allegedly assaulting Shipley.
Less than two hours later, Crawford, who was six weeks pregnant, arrived at Shipley’s residence on Buddy Lane in Carpendale where the fatal shooting took place.
Shipley remained jailed without bond Friday on two counts of first-degree murder filed by West Virginia State Police in the case.
Shipley was also charged with three counts of attempted murder for allegedly firing shots at three people in a vehicle who accompanied Crawford to Shipley’s residence. Demond Scott was identified as one of those people.
