Maryland State Police are attempting to establish communication with a man who barricaded himself in an Allegany County residence today. At approximately 11 a.m., troopers from the Cumberland Barrack responded on a report of a home getting broken into in the 10400 block of Piney Mountain Road in Frostburg, Maryland. When troopers arrived, they discovered an open front door. Troopers then heard a single gunshot and backed out of the house and formed a perimeter. Troopers from the Cumberland and McHenry barracks and the Special Tactical Assault Team Element (STATE Team), along with negotiators responded to the scene. They were joined at the scene by units from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, the state Natural Resources Police and the Cumberland City Police Department. The suspect is believed to be the only person in the residence at this time. No injuries to civilians or law enforcement personnel have been reported. No shots have been fired by law enforcement personnel. Residents are urged to stay away from the scene in the area of Piney Mountain Road at this time. This incident is ongoing.
