U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen to serve on I-81 panel

April 15th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen announced Thursday that he will take former Sen. Barbara Mikulski’s seat on the I-81 Corridor Coalition’s steering committee. The Herald Mail reports that Van Hollen, D-Md., is the only federal official from Maryland to serve on the panel. “The I-81 corridor is central to commerce and transportation in Washington County and across the state — and improving it is a bipartisan issue that needs immediate focus,” Van Hollen said in a statement.

“I’m committed to working with my congressional colleagues, Gov. (Larry) Hogan and state officials, businesses, and stakeholders like the I-81 Corridor Coalition to increase funding and expand economic development,” he said.

The I-81 Corridor Coalition is a consortium of stakeholders dedicated to improving the safety, continuity, and efficiency of commercial and personal travel along the I-81 corridor, which extends from Tennessee to the Canadian border in New York.
