55 year old Cynthia Elizabeth Stevens and 52 year old Allen Ray Stevens, Sr., of LaVale, were both charged with numerous counts in connection with a fatal motor vehicle accident.
It was during the early morning hours of 04/30/2016 when a single vehicle occupied by three young males, ages 22, 20, and 17 years of age, crashed into a tree on North First Street in LaVale, while traveling at an apparent high rate of speed, killing all three occupants. The Maryland State Police responded to investigate the accident. It was at that time that law enforcement first received information that the three young victims had been at a party earlier that evening that involved underage drinking.
The Maryland State Police requested assistance from the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) to look further into the allegations.
The eight month investigation revealed that the three victims had been at a party earlier that evening at a private residence that was known to host underage drinking parties. Autopsies of the victims confirmed that two of the three victims had alcohol in their system at the time of their deaths.
Numerous interviews were conducted, and a search warrant was executed at the residence. As a result, information was discovered implicating the owners of the residence for knowingly allowing underage drinking parties at the residence on numerous occasions, including the night of the accident.
Cynthia Stevens and Allen Stevens were both charged with Allowing Underage Possession of Alcohol, Allowing Underage Consumption of Alcohol, Reckless Endangerment, Disorderly House, Obstruction of Justice, and related charges.
Both were charged via criminal summons and are free pending their initial court appearance.
