West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin today announced Chris Stadelman has been named chief of staff. The appointment will take place effective Friday.
"As we tackle the challenges that lie ahead, I'm confident Chris will continue to play a major role in helping my administration move West Virginia forward," Gov. Tomblin said. "His years of communications experience combined with a keen understanding of public policy make him a tremendous asset to my administration, and I look forward to working with him in this new role."
Stadelman, who joined the administration as communications director in May 2014, replaces former Chief of Staff Charlie Lorensen, who was appointed to serve as the governor's chief of staff in April 2013. Lorensen is returning to the private sector.
"I have worked with Charlie in numerous capacities for three decades," Gov. Tomblin said. "He has been a wonderful friend for many years and a valuable advisor during the past five years of my administration. I admire his commitment and dedication to service and the people of West Virginia."
