Threat At Washington Middle School Deemed Non-Credible

October 24th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

School administrators were made aware of a possible threat at Washington Middle School late Wednesday afternoon. After an investigation by the school administration and local law enforcement, the threat was deemed to be non-credible. Washington will have officers on-site tomorrow morning as an added precaution. Please note that ACPS considers the safety of its students a top priority. As such, school staff and local law enforcement thoroughly investigate every potential threat to students or schools. Often, the investigation determines that the threat was non-credible. A non-credible threat is one in which the student suspected of making the threat does not have the means, ability, or desire to carry it out. These threats are often referred to as transient threats, expressions of anger or frustration that can be quickly or easily resolved and do not express a lasting intent to harm someone.

It’s great that the public is informed that there was a problem. But as a parent of a student at Washington, I’d like to know more about it. A 10 day suspension for a student who brought a knife to school and threatened to kill a teacher seems a little mild. Isn’t this a criminal offense and shouldn’t the child in question be removed permanently and prosecuted by juvenile authorities? Will 10 days at home really change this child? Get rid of the problematic, repeat offenders. That way teachers can have time to teach, instead of having to be constant disciplinarians.

      > I agree. There’s more here than plain anger. Normal children do not threaten to kill people. This child needs special schooling. We all know too well what happens when you mix a mental deficiency with weapons.
