The Allegany County Board of Education on Thursday voted unanimously to ratify a new contract with the local teachers union. As a result of soaring health insurance costs, several modifications to the teachers health plan were made which will see the employees footing a larger percentage of the price tag.  Although the new contract calls for a half a percent salary increase, that does not come close to offsetting the insurance increase for those teachers.
