As a result of a U.S. Supreme Court case, the 2018 holiday season will be the last in which shoppers in the Mountain State can take advantage of tax-free shopping for online retail giants such as Amazon or eBay. Beginning in January, West Virginia will begin collecting internet sales taxes. The policy shift was first announced in October to give businesses time to prepare, although some businesses had already collected taxes on online sales. “Certainly we’ve had e-commerce for a number of years now and we’ve had mail order commerce going way back in West Virginia. It’s one of 45 states that did collect sales taxes.
