Late last year, the local legislative delegation informed the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority of plans to form a task force to study the future of Canal Place and its assets. The bill passed unanimously and that will now see the creation of a seven-member task force with the charge to study the asset allocation and structure of the Authority. Owned by the state, Canal Place was established in 1993 with more than $30 million spent so far on the site. Although abolishing the authority and changing directions is an option, Janice Keene, Canal Place board chair, said dissolving the board is not the primary goal of the task force…
