Consultants preparing an independent economic study of Cumberland visited the area on Wednesday and presented a sort of “good news/bad news” report based on findings compiled to date designed to help map out an economic development strategy for the city. Kyle Talente, vice president of RKG Associates, gave an update on the Cumberland Economic Development Strategic Plan at City Hall and stressed the importance of promoting a positive image for the community. This was a follow-up to an early May 6 kickoff meeting for the study. Talente spoke for about 45-minutes, providing much details on the status of the $54,600 study. One early theme has been to attract jobs above the median income. He said creating minimum wage or below jobs doesn’t bring a lot to the local economy.
