Parents who provide alcohol to minors could now possibly see the inside of a jail cell after the Maryland Senate unanimously passed Bill 564 on Wednesday. WHAG Tv reports the bill, which was introduced by Montgomery County Senator Brian Feldman (D-15), was created in the aftermath of a car crash that killed two Wotton High School students who were consuming alcohol at a party in Montgomery County. In the bill, Feldman called for increased maximum fines for first-time offenders who host and provide alcohol at underage drinking parties. Under the legislation, the maximum fine would increase from $2,500 to $5,000.
