Grammy winning singer song-writer Steve Earle headlines the Thomas Cumberland Tri-State Wing-Off and Music Festival tonight at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. From Monroe, Virginia, Earle began his career in music in 1982. He rose to prominence in 1986 with the release of his album “Guitar Town.” Earle has recorded 16 studio albums while also producing or playing on recordings by artists such as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris. The Wing-Off is hosted by the Western Maryland Jaycees. The event is a fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting several local nonprofit organizations. Those nonprofits receive donations based on the number of volunteer hours the nonprofit’s staff contribute to the festival. Some proceeds go to different charities the Jaycees support. In addition to Earle, other performers at the event will include Corey Smith, Band of Heathens, ill Hogue and Town Mountain.
The Wing-Off runs from noon to 11 p.m.
The annual Friends Aware Ox Roast combined with the Jaycees’ Wing-Off this year with the Ox Roast held last night and featured The Davisson Brothers Band.
