State Superintendent’s Office releases statement on school calendar

April 29th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has made no further decisions regarding the reopening of schools, which remain closed through May 15. Any decisions regarding the reopening of schools will be made with careful consideration of the health and safety of our students, teachers and staff as the first priority.  Local school system partners will continue to implement continuity of learning plans in order to support student learning during the COVID-19 State of Emergency.  MSDE continues to work closely with stakeholders in the development of the Maryland Education Recovery Plan, which will complement Governor Hogan's overall Maryland Roadmap to Recovery.  The statement was issued, in part, in response to comments made Tuesday by Allegany County Board of Education member Ed Root who said after a call with Salmon he is more optimistic about kids returning to schools this academic year.

In other words what you can take away from this is; don’t listen to Ed Root’s supposed plan. He’s trying to say that he has the ear of the State Superintendent and it doesn’t seem to be true. Hubris plain and simple. He’s still a small fish in a big pond.
