On Friday Morning, Troopers from the Cumberland Barrack and Undercover Officers from the area worked a special Traffic and Criminal Operation in the eastern portion of Allegany County. During a 3 hour operation, Troopers stopped 49 vehicles, and made 8 drug arrests. One of the drug arrests made was a person taking a large quantity of illegal prescription pills to Frostburg State University to sell. Money, illegal drugs, and a vehicle were all seized from the suspect.
Maryland State Police in Allegany County are committed to reducing traffic fatalities and taking criminals off the roads. In 2012 there have been 10 traffic fatalities in Allegany County compared to only 1 in 2011.
With the upcoming holidays, travelers should plan to see more Troopers on the roadways. Troopers will be actively searching for aggressive drivers, seat belt violations, and drunk or drugged drivers. Police remind drivers to watch their speed, drive defensively to avoid collisions, and wear their seat belt to save lives.
