The Governor’s Office of Small, Minority & Women Business Affairs hosted its signature Ready, Set, GROW! Procurement Connections Workshop at Rocky Gap Casino Resort today. This business development program helps small, minority, women, and veteran business owners connect to state government buyers. The event drew dozens of small business owners and entrepreneurs.
“Government contracting is a highly competitive arena, and we would like to see greater participation from small businesses in this region, particularly those owned by minorities, women, and veterans,” said Jimmy Rhee, special secretary of the Governor’s Office of Small, Minority & Women Business Affairs. “The businesses attending this workshop now have the tools needed to compete with greater confidence.”
The Ready, Set, GROW! workshop highlighted insightful tips for navigating the procurement process and accessing the contracting pipeline. Buyers from seven state agencies identified what they are looking for right now, and what they expect to buy in the future. During the open networking session, vendors were able to meet the buyers one-on-one.
During the workshop, three local entrepreneurs received a Governor’s Citation in recognition of their contributions to Maryland’s small business community and the community at large:
- Marsha Greyeyes, Owner – Greyeyes Supply Company, LLC
- Mike Koch & Pablo Solanet, Co-owners – Firefly Farms, Inc.
- Arthur Robinson, Owner – Full Circle Solutions, Inc.
