The Maryland State Police, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, Cumberland City Police and Maryland Department of Transportation conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Friday evening, May 24, 2019. The operation was conducted between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on US Route 40 alternate in Eckhart Mines.
The checkpoint was manned by 7 State Troopers, 2 Allegany County Sheriff’s Deputies, 2 Cumberland City Police Officers and 3 members of the Maryland Department of Transportation. 304 vehicles were checked during the effort. The operation led to the arrest of 2 drivers for driving while impaired by alcohol.
All agencies would like to thank the community in the effort to reduce impaired drivers on the roadways. Highway safety begins with the decision to drive sober, well rested and with no distractions.
