While there are four open seats on the Allegany County Board of Education in this election year- with less than a month before the filing deadline- only one candidate has stepped forward. The seats held by Laurie Marchini, Sara Beth Bittinger and Wayne Foote are up for election this year, as well as the seat held by recent appointee Nick Hadley. Of those four, Marchini and Bittinger have announced they are not running; while Foote is undecided. Hadley, who was appointed in December to fill the vacancy created with the passing of Lorelee Farrell, has said that he plans to file. To date the only candidate to officially file is Wesley Mason- a political science student at Allegany College of Maryland.
