The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is starting a $886,000 project to slightly widen the sharp turn at MD 935 (Legislative Road) and Railroad Street in Barton. Weather permitting, the project will be complete this fall.
The project will better accommodate larger vehicles to navigate the right turn at the intersection. SHA’s contractor, Lashley Construction Co. Inc., of Frostburg, will also add new concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, conduct drainage improvements and resurface the roadway.
Motorists can expect daily single lane closures and occasional lane shifts between sunrise and sunset, Monday through Friday. Crews will utilize cones, barrels and flagging operations to guide the nearly 1,000 vehicles per day safely through the work zone.
Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates, including construction delays and lane closures.
