The Downtown Development Commission has stepped up efforts to find a new mall/main street manager with the hope being the position will be filled by mid summer. The job has been in a state of flux in recent years with several individuals filling the role since the retirement of longtime manager Ed Mullaney in October of 2014- and it has been vacant since previous manager Mikayla Dodge resigned at the end of last year. Finding a new manager is being handled as a coordinated effort involving the DDC, the CEDC and the Cumberland Mayor and City Council. With the hit that downtown businesses have suffered resulting from COVID-19, and plans for a major reconstruction of the mall in the work, CEDC executive director Paul Kelly says the new manager will have a full plate. He says clearly the responsibilities and scope of the of the job is expanding…

With Paul Kelly’s guiding hand this venture is sure to be a failure. Keep up the good work!

How about running out another good business like Downtown Dollar/Flower Sales that beautified the mall every spring/summer. The amazing downtown management staffed hassled the guy until he left. Like his flowers really took up too much of the busy downtown space.

That seemed to be a thriving business and the plants that hadn’t sold yet livened up the place.
It would be a shame and a black mark against the powers that be if it were true.
I’m asking because I truly don’t know.
Based on experience with Cumberland I would tend to believe it.

I would like to nominate Mac. Based on, and I quote ” I’m asking because I truly don’t know ” Of course I realize that statement makes him over qualified, so I would like to propose a pay grade increase for the above mentioned position. You can thank me later.
