Attempting to approve a school calendar and an alternative for the next school year- while at the same time making necessary adjustments to the current calendar has proven a challenge for the Allegany County Board of Education. Snow days have pushed back the last day of school for the 2014-15 school year to June 11, barring further inclement weather or other changes. The School Board, after briefly considering tabling the issue for further review, voted to adopt changes to the calendar at its monthly business meeting. The board also approved requesting a waiver from the state that would allow the county to add a half day makeup day on April 6, Easter Monday, to the school calendar. The board also decided to push back the grading period, so the next report cards will be issued April 16. Two alternate calendars for the 2015-16 school year were also approved by the board at the meeting.
