Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Salmon told the state school board yesterday that she will not seek another term, and will leave the position on June 30, 2020.
Due to the terms of her contract, she was required to give her notice at this time. She has had a 40 year career in public education.
Salmon said she has tried to provide equity and excellence in the state school system.
A search for a successor is expected to commence in the near future.
