Rolling Mill Holdouts Are Dwindling

It appears as though the number of property owners in the Rolling Mill area not willing to sell is dwindling. Commonly referred to as the Rolling Mill plan, the 2.5-acre tract is part of the larger renewal effort known as the Maryland Avenue Redevelopment Project. The Rolling Mill portion calls for a plaza off Exit 43 of Interstate 68. The developer, Ed Scott of Frederick, hopes to place a hotel, sit-down and fast service restaurant, convenience store and retail shops at the site to be called Cumberland Gateway Plaza. The desire by a hand full of property owners to retain their homes has been viewed as a slight detriment to the overall process- but Cumberland Economic Development executive director Paul Kelly reports that negotiations are continuing and now it looks like just a few homes will remain…

    It appears the “new” sales are from people who were always willing to sell if price concerns were met. The core or folks who simply want to stay in their homes remains unchanged.
