The Cumberland Times News reports a search resumed Tuesday morning in the Missouri River for a graduate of Mountain Ridge High School now attending Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. Tom Patterson, 23, was swimming with friends near Elk Point, South Dakota, on Sunday when he became missing, according to the Sioux City Journal.
The newspaper reported that several crews assisted the Union County Sheriff's Office in an investigation of the areas downstream from the boat ramp Sunday evening but stopped the search around 9 p.m.
Frostburg City Administrator John Kirby said Tuesday morning that Patterson has been an intern with the city's police department during a recent summer.
"He was interested in a career in public safety," Kirby said.

"It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the disappearance of current student and wrestler Tom Patterson," a statement from the university said. "The search is ongoing and our prayers continue to surround the situation and all involved. As a campus, we will be providing support to those coping in this difficult time."
