During the Fort Hill Friendship Academy football game weeks ago, several players took a knee during the national anthem, including one official also taking a knee. WCBC Radio contacted the MPSSAA in regards to the act of protest and if the actions were prohibited. Bill Reinhard, director of communications for the Maryland Department of Education declined to appear on the Dave Norman Show but responded to the questions via email, stating that there is no policy in place prohibiting national anthem protests. Reinhard also commented that the MPSSAA does not issue any guidance on the issue involved in the state playoffs. WCBC Sports statistician Mike Connelley commented on the events of that game:
