The Mineral County Office of Emergency Management will be hosting a shelter training class March 4 at 9 a.m. at the New Creek Fire Hall. The class is free to the public and is intended to teach citizens how to assist The American Red Cross in setting up shelters in cases of disasters.
Although this class is being taught at the New Creek Fire Department, there are predesignated shelter locations all over the county and volunteers could be utilized at any of those sites.
Once a person completes this course, they will be added to the Red Cross's volunteer roster and if a disaster strikes the Red Cross will contact the volunteer and ask them to report to a shelter site. The class is free of charge and will go over all the things that are necessary to know about working in a shelter. It will also go through a full simulation of setting up a shelter and tearing one down
