On June 7, 2018, members of the Allegany County Narcotics Task Force, with the assistance of the Maryland State Police S.T.A.T.E Team, Cumberland Police Depart C.E.R.T., Washington County S.R.T., Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit along with uniform members of the Maryland State Police, Cumberland Police Department and Allegany County Sheriffs Office, executed four search and seizure warrants in the northern end of Cumberland, MD.
During the subsequent search, Allegany County Narcotics Task Force Investigators located felony amounts of heroin, crack cocaine, and prescription pills. The heroin, crack cocaine and prescription pills were all packaged for resale.
As a result, Patrick Lionel Smith Sr., 60, of Cumberland, Maryland; and Travell Teon Awkward, 23 of Cumberland, Maryland, were both placed under arrest. Smith was charged with the following:
- CDS POSS W/INT TO DIST
- COMM NUIS/DISTRIB CDS
- CDS: POSSESS-NOT MARIJUANA
Awkward was charged with the following:
- Two Counts of CDS POSS W/INT TO DIST
- CDS POSS W/INT TO DIST
Following their initial appearance, both Smith and Awkward were held without bond. The investigation is ongoing.
