One of the major talking points at last week’s PACE Reception in Annapolis was the proposed multi-million dollar Cumberland River Park Plan- and based on the initial feedback- the project has plenty of backing. The Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority is the driving force behind the project which calls for a dock site adjacent to the YMCA on Kelly Road and extend through the downtown and end just before the train bridge at Elizabeth Street in South Cumberland. Executive Director Dee Dee Ritchie says that plan also includes a bike wash station, kayak and canoe access, a rock obstacle course, spectator area, a loop trail, floating walking bridge and a path leading to a three-state overlook on Knobley Mountain. After meeting with state representatives downstate, Ritchie said she is more optimistic than ever that the project can come to fruition.
