The deadline to submit a letter of interest to be considered for the vacant Cumberland City Council seat has passed, and the process to appoint the next council member will now begin in earnest. A seat opened last month when David Caporale resigned his position, just weeks after being elected as a member of the board of Allegany County Commissioners. The current mayor and council will review the applicants and schedule interviews during the month of December, with Mayor-elect Ray Morriss taking an active role in the process, with the goal being to have a decision made prior to the January swearing in of the new council…
