For the third consecutive year the price of school lunches will be increasing in Allegany County public schools. Finance Director Randy Bittinger pointed to the first ladies healthy food initiative for public schools instituted in 2012- which comes with strings attached to federal re-imbursement dollars as the primary need for the hike. The increase for the coming school year will be five cents, following back to back years of ten cent jumps in price. School Superintendent David Cox told WCBC News that he is aware that even a slight increase can be a hardship for some families, but given the federal guidelines in place- the board has little choice in the matter.
