On Monday, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on 24 year old Marley Zaire Powell of Cumberland. The warrant stems from an investigation initiated by the Cumberland Police Department on May 14th 2017 when officers responded to the 600blk of Washington St for a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival Officers contacted the victim and several witnesses who stated that they observed a male subject wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled tight over their face. They lost sight of the subject and heard the sound of glass breaking. It was determined that the suspect had broken a patio window. The victim began yelling and the subject fled the area on foot. A crime scene tech from the Cumberland Police Dept responded and gathered several items of evidence from the window. The items were sent to the Maryland State Police Crime Lab for comparison and later returned as Powell as the suspect. As a result, Officers applied for charges through the District Court of Maryland which resulted in an arrest warrant served. Powell was processed and served with the warrant charging him with Attempted Fourth Degree Burglary, Destruction of Property, Disorderly Conduct, and Disturbing the Peace. Powell was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was held on a $7,500 bail.
