On Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence located in the first block of Grand Avenue in reference to a suicidal subject. Upon officer’s arrival they were not able to get the subject to answer the door. The subject was yelling and screaming at officers, refusing to open the door. Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene to assist. Further communications failed with the subject at which time entry was made into the residence. Two adults in the residence were transported by the Cumberland Fire Department to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for medical evaluations. The identities of both subjects are not being released at this time.
Assistance at the scene was provided by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigation into this incident is continuing.
