On Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 4:00am, troopers from the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack responded to a reported motor vehicle collision on westbound Interstate I-68 near the 41 Mile Marker (Seton Drive), Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland.
Upon their arrival troopers discovered there were three vehicles involved in the collision. Investigation revealed the at fault vehicle, a 2000 Pontiac passenger vehicle driven by Christy Smith of Barton, MD, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-68 prior to the collision. Smith’s vehicle collided head on with a 2006 Ford passenger vehicle driven by Arlene McMillan of Oldtown, MD. A 2012 Jeep SUV driven by Amy Valentine of Cumberland, MD, then collided into McMillan’s vehicle. Both McMillan and Valentine were transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries they sustained during the collision.
Smith was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was subsequently arrested and charged with numerous traffic offenses in relation to this incident.
