On Tuesday November 28, 2017, at 2:31 am, Cumberland City Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Knox and Henderson Avenue for a motor vehicle theft. As officers took the initial report and developed suspect information. It was also revealed that Sheers had forcibly broken into the victim’s home and stole $10,000.00 dollars worth of money and property. An officer on patrol immediately located the stolen vehicle. The vehicle fled from officers throughout the west side of the city. As officers checked numerous streets, they located Travis Sheers, age 28 of Baltimore, Maryland and Taylar Lapinski, age 25 of Cumberland, Maryland walking in the 400 block of Paca Street. Sheers gave officers fictitious information about his identity as Lapinski gave false information as to their whereabouts. Both individuals were placed in custody and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing. Sheers was found to also have had a warrant in Frederick County Maryland for failing to appear for a previous possession with intent to distribute heroin arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant in Allegany County Maryland for failing to appear for trial for a previous driving on a suspended license arrest. Both Sheers and Lapinski are waiting to be seen for bond hearings. The vehicle was located parked in the area of Fairmont Avenue with some of the stolen property in the back seat. Deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office assisted as well.
Sheers was charged with DUI, Burglary 1st, 3rd, 4th Degree, Theft $1,500.00 to $2,500.00 (2 counts), Unlawful Taking of a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Removal of Property, Obstructing and Hindering, False Identification along with numerous traffic charges.
Lapinski was charged with Obstructing and Hindering.
