On 09/16/14 at 5:23pm an Officer with the Cumberland Police Department was patrolling in the area of Virginia Ave when he observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. The Officer then contacted the operator who was identified as John Stanford Rickenberg of Cumberland. The Officer observed Rickenberg to be acting in a nervous manner and summonsed a K-9 Officer to respond. A free air sniff was conducted on the vehicle yielding a positive alert for illegal narcotics. During a search of the vehicle officers located a small amount of suspected marijuana and prescription pills. A check of Rickenberg’s driving status in the State of Maryland was performed which revealed that he was currently suspended and did not possess a valid driver’s license. At this time Rickenberg was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept for processing. Rickenberg was charged with Possession of Marijuana under 10grams, Possession not marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and several traffic related offenses. Rickenberg was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was held on a $4,000 bail Rickenberg was released to the Allegany County Detention Center.
