On 06/29/14 Officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business located in the 700blk of Park St in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival Officer’s contacted store employees who advised that they observed a female subject place a large amount of items into a shopping cart and attempt to exit the store without paying for the items. The subject was contacted and identified as 49 year old Mary Safford of Ridgeley WV. Safford was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept for processing and charges. Safford was charged with one count of Theft under $1,000 and taken for an initial appearance at District Court where she was released on her personal recognizance pending trial.
June 29th, 2014 CDS
On 06/29/14 Officer’s with the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 300blk of Bedford St for a report of subjects possibly using CDS within a vehicle. Upon the Officer’s arrival he observed the vehicle in question with several male subjects inside. The Officer contacted the occupants and gained consent to search the vehicle. The officer then located several CDS and related items within the vehicle. As a result, 25 year old Jared Anderson of Bedford PA and 24 year old Daniel Markle of Keyser WV were placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept for processing and charging. Markle was charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and released on a criminal citation pending trial in District Court. Anderson was charged with one count CDS Possession not marijuana and CDS Possession of paraphernalia. Anderson was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending his next court appearance.
June 29th, 2014 Recovered Stolen Vehicle
On 06/29/14 an Officer on patrol with the Cumberland Police Dept was in the area of Park St at Emily St utilizing the License Plate Recognition Device when it alerted on a possible stolen motor vehicle. The Officer then checked the vehicle through the Allegany County Emergency Operations Center where it was confirmed that the vehicle, a red in color Chrysler 300 was stolen out of Baltimore County. The vehicle was unoccupied and no suspects were developed. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cumberland Police Dept at 301-777-1600.
