On 01/20/2016 during the early afternoon hours, Cumberland City Police officers were dispatched to an Oldtown Road residence in reference to a reported assault that had just occurred. Officers arrived on the scene and located the victim reporting the assault. Officers initiated an investigation and found that the victim had been physically assaulted by a domestic partner after a verbal altercation which caused injuries to their right eye. Officers observed injuries consistent with the victim’s statements. The injuries appeared to be minor and did not require immediate medical attention.
The victim reported that the suspect in this case had fled the area prior to the officer’s arrival. The victim identified the suspect in this case as Melvin Gray Tyson Jr., 24, of Cumberland. Officers were able to locate Tyson Jr. at a Mount Royal Avenue residence and place him under arrest for the assault. Tyson was transported to Cumberland City Police Headquarters where he was charged with the following:
ASSAULT 2nd DEGREE – 1 Count
Tyson was processed for the above listed charge and then transported to the Allegany County District Court for an initial appearance before a court commissioner. Tyson was held on a $4,000.00 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
Warrant Arrest
On 01/20/2016 during the afternoon hours, Cumberland City Police officers were dispatched to the area of Park Street at Williams Street in reference to disorderly subjects arguing. Upon arrival to the scene, officers located two people involved in a verbal altercation and intervened. Officers ran routine checks on the subjects and found that Carl Nelson Bohrer, 40, of Cumberland was wanted on an open District Court bench warrant for allegedly failing to follow conditions of probation. As a result of this incident, Bohrer was placed under arrest and transported to Cumberland City Police Headquarters for processing.
Bohrer was served with the warrant and transported to the Allegany County District Court for an initial appearance before a District Court commissioner. Bohrer was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a $100.00 bond.
