The Cumberland Times News reports a gas station attendant who allegedly told police he was robbed at gunpoint last week was charged Friday with filing a fictitious report, West Virginia State Police said.
William Harry Kammauff, 50, was charged with petit larceny and falsely reporting an emergency in connection with the Feb. 8 incident at Press’ Little Market Gas Station in Wiley Ford.
Kammauff was working that night when he reportedly made a call to the Mineral County 911 center about 8:50 p.m. reporting the gas station had been robbed.
He reportedly told police the suspect was an African- American male approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing more than 200 pounds.
Troopers didn’t say why they didn’t believe Kammauff’s account.
Kammauff was being held Friday in the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail on a $2,500 bond.
The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation. Cumberland Police Department responded to the scene immediately after police learned of the incident.
