On 07/22/2011 at approximately 0530 hrs, Maryland State Police Troopers responded to the area of Bel-Air Subdivision, for reports of several burglaries.
Troopers learned that three homes were entered in the middle of the night / early morning hours. The suspect gained entry into all homes through unlocked windows. Once inside the homes the suspect targeted women’s purses and men’s wallets.
One victim advised Troopers he walked into his kitchen, around 0530 hrs, and confronted the suspect in his home. The home owner attempted to detain the suspect and a slight struggle took place. The suspect was able to break free from the home owner and ran out the door of the home and was last seen running across the victims back yard. Home owner notified the barrack at that time.
The two additional victims did not realize their homes were entered until their property was discovered missing.
MSP K-9 unit responded to the scene and was able to track the suspect to a side street, where the track ended. It is believed a vehicle was entered at that time. MSP Crime Lab unit also responded to the scene and processed all three homes for evidence.
The above case remains under investigation. Troopers are asking local residence to be visual for any suspicious people or cars in their neighborhoods, and to also lock doors and windows during the night, and when not home. Troopers also advised to lock you vehicles when left unattended for any periods.
If anyone has any information in regards to the crime, contact the Cumberland Barrack.
